Unreal Engine PoC game
- Unreal Engine
Overview
This is a first/third person shooter type game, where you play as a Detective, and have to solve crimes. It would reuse cases from other games I am building, but you'd be able to physically run around the world, picking up and examining clues, speaking to NPCs and solving the crime
The problem
A learning exercise in game development and Unreal Engine
What I built
Not much. I made several buildings that the player can walk or run around, mechanisms for speaking to NPCs, and a clock in system at the Police building.
A few patrolling NPCs with set paths to walk, and enemy style NPCs who have a field of vision and will chase the player until they catch you or their line of sight is broken.
Installed and added various third party assets like textures, objects, characters, buildings, etc.
This would require years of solo dev at my level of knowledge and spare time, so I will not be completing and deploying anything

What I learnt
Drag and drop nodes are used to link objects, variables and assets to create various functions and events.
It is an interesting way of developing, and I have been told some schools introduce children to computer science using this sort of development method.
